RFP GRANT AWARDS REACH US Haitian Diabetes Project

CCHER REACH US Awards $30,000 to Faith-based organization and Community-based organizations for Diabetes Prevention and Diabetes Group support Intervention Programs

The Center for Community Health, Education & Research (CCHER) today announced the award of 3 grants totaling almost $30,000 over one year to support Haitian Diabetes prevention efforts. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) funds the REACH US grant programs around the US. It provides CCHER the authorization and the funding to support grants for combating diabetes complication and reducing risks related to Diabetes in the Haitian community.

"Each year, older and younger adults are developing major complications from diabetes and are increasingly becoming a major public health crisis and increasing health costs" said Eustache Jean-Louis, MD., MPH, Principal Investigator for this grant. "These new grants will help the broader Haitian community to establish different prevention and intervention strategies identified by the REACH US Haitian Diabetes Steering Committee."

The 3 awards to these organizations below are funded up to $30,000 per year in total costs. This funding is a cooperative agreement between CCHER, the funding organizations and CDC. Continuation awards for future activities are subject to the availability of funds and progress achieved by awardees.

The grants announced today will be administered by CCHER's Research Unit and will be awarded to the following organizations:

Organization First Year Award

  • Boston Medical Center/SPARK - $10,000
  • Church of Nazarene Compassionate Center - $10,000
  • Massachusetts Community Health Services - $10,000
