Living After Diagnosis AIDS (LADA) is a peer support group intervention for Haitian living with HIV. The intervention has three major components: (1) group discussion (2) counseling (3) peer support activities.
The group meets once each month for educational/informational sessions and a communal meal. Group discussions include topics: Nutrition, Clinical Trial, How to Disclose, Dating, Love Connection and Prevention & Risk Reduction.
Individual counseling is provided to Peer leaders by a Clinical Psychologist as needed. Holiday events and recreational activities are sponsored by the program for support group members and their families.
The LADA is consumer-driven with two HIV consumers responsible for the leadership of the peer support group. An Outreach Leader and Group Activity Leader work together to serve their fellow support group members through advocacy, home visits, transportation.
Peer leaders under the Peer Support Coordinator are responsible for the one-day annual retreat.
