CCHER's Housing Department provides housing
search and advocacy services to Haitian and non-Haitian HIV consumers and
their families. Emphasizing privacy, safety, cultural sensitivity, and
independence, CCHER housing advocates assist consumers in finding safe,
affordable housing that meets their physical as well as their psychological
needs.
From the Haitian Creole word lakay, meaning "my home", The
Lakay Project is a scattered-site, confidential housing resource serving
homeless Haitian and other HIV consumers within the city of Boston.
What type of housing is offered?
The Lakay Project offers private, subsidized apartments that are located
in the Boston neighborhoods of Mattapan, Dorchester, and others.
Who is qualified?
Individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS who are homeless and
with no permanent place to live are eligible for the program. The program
provides for up to 15 individuals/families at one time.
Is confidentiality protected?
All services provided to consumers remain confidential. The HIV status
of participants is maintained as private.
What home-based assistance is connected to the program?
The LAKAY PROJECT provides social services to participants in assisting
them with relocation, helping participants to adjust to a new apartment
and also meeting the needs of disabled individuals. Consumers are linked
to other CCHER programs as well.
What other housing assistance is available?
Anyone who does not qualify for the LAKAY PROJECT is offered housing
search assistance in the Greater Boston area. |
