ABOUT CCHER

As a community-based health and social organization, CCHER's goal is to advocate on behalf of the community for public health policies that will, over time, have long term benefits for the community, most particularly immigrant, underprivileged and underserved residents in the greater Dorchester area.. We at CCHER believe that residents of a community can play an important role in organizing and advocating for efficient and affordable health care and health related services for their community. Since its existence and its geographic location, CCHER has used its competence to better serve the large metro Boston Haitian community.

CCHER’s Mission: To strive for a comprehensive relationship between community, health, service, education, and research, and as a whole, to address the public health needs of individuals.

To always strive to place our clients in the center of our educational, service, and research initiatives and to create an environment where trust and caring are the daily driving forces.

To strive for research activities and to advocate for testing service models that can benefit or increase the quality of life for members of the community.

To provide support to and to work with other public health institutions to address public health issues affecting immigrant, underserved and diverse communities.

The services provided by CCHER in the greater Boston area and surrounding communities include mental health services, substance abuse services, health education & promotion (HIV, TB, Diabetes, Asthma etc..), peer support group, case management, specialty services ( HIV/AIDS, housing search & placement; home-delivered meal & nutritional counseling, physical fitness) and transportation for need clients and families.

CCHER coordinates the only US CDC funded REACH 2010 Coalition HIV program for Haitians in the Metro Boston and surrounding communities. Since 2001, the program has been conducting group level sessions and has been collecting KAB data among Haitian Youth and Adult in the Metro Boston. CCHER also conducted in the nation the first community-based participatory (CBP) telephone survey in 2001-2002 (N = 2,717) and conducted the same CBP telephone survey in January to May 2007. In 2001, CCHER was funded by SAMHSA to develop the first Mental Health Services for Haitians living with HIV. In 2005, CCHER was funded by Casey Foundation for the Diabetes & Obesity Fitness Study Among Haitians in the Metro Boston.

CCHER works in collaboration with Hyde Park Health Associates, Carney Hospital and Boston Medical Center to link its clients and their families to medical services.

Since 2004, CCHER has diligently worked to change the face of its care and service facility. Much has been accomplished with renovation and expansion of our facility in 2007 to move our vision forward in order to better serve our consumers and their families. It is our hope that we will begin to occupy our new office space by early August 2007.
