current emergency and  long term plan.

Immediate Need :  We  need a Tent to place in the yard of the clinic so we can begin to resume our work and see patients and their families

Current Problem:

CCHER clinic was set up on a health maintenance model to address ongoing health, prevention and social needs of the Delmas community and surrounding communities http://www.ccher.org/haitiprojects.htm. Our objective was simple to create a community-based primary care model with a strong public health and social component accessible to all. Our model was not designed to address the current surgical and orthopedic needs that are needed post earthquake. However, as patients and homeless families look for medical support in our geographic area, CCHER proposes a contingency plan to address this immediate need.

Short Term Emergency Plan

Due to the lost our clinic, we propose to restore our service by setting up a tent in the yard of the building. This will allow by late February or early March to outreach to those who are or will be in need of post earthquake medical follow-ups. To accomplish this task, we will need your support in several fronts:

  • Medical supplies – alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Prep Solution Povidone Iodine 10%, sterile saline, gauze and dressing and wound kits
  • Drugs: Antibiotics for gram negative rods and gram positive cocci, antibiotics for infections after trauma, antibiotics for infections after orthopedic surgery, analgesics
  • Immunizations: Tetanus
  • Lab equipments: small centrifuge, manual hematocrit centrifuge., CBC machine, urine specific gravity instrument
  • Lab Supplies: Blood collection tubes (lavender, red and blue tops) urine dipstick (glucose, protein etc..)
  • Vital Sign equipments and materials
  • Scopes: eye and ear
  • Blood Pressure Equipments and Stethoscopes

Long Term Plan:

  • Purchase land space

Before the earthquake, CCHER was leasing the building. As of now, the owner does not have an interest in rebuilding. CCHER is seeking to purchase the land. Our justification is  not to relocate rather to stay in the same community and to engage CCHER in the overall commitment and  collaboration of rebuilding of the community. Finally, this action by CCHER will re-enforce our long term commitment to reduce local health disparities

  • Rebuild a new  two level clinic with handicapped accessibility

Prior to our occupancy, the building went to a series of construction renovation.  Yet,  these activities did not improve the  distribution of clinical and administration space. In terms of construction, the building did not  have  enough of office and clinical space to meet our service agenda.. CCHER has several reasons to consider  a community model :

1)      Developing a sound community-based primary care clinic is what needed for the future of Haiti health care system in a larger scale

2)      It is cost effective and not too expensive to run comparing to a large hospital based model

3)      Engaging the community and its residents in  making  decision

·        Integrated Laboratory

Patients and their families do not have the money to pay for outside laboratory tests.

For sound clinical decision, medical providers must have  on site laboratory they can rely on for basic lab tests.

  • Integrated Pharmacy

Before the earthquake, most Haitians can not afford to buy medications, making treatment  and follow-up plans very difficult. Having a pharmacy in our future clinic is an important step  to recognize that families are forcing to make  choices between placing food on the table vs. a drug prescription. Our commitment is to have generic drugs available on site to those patients who can not afford them.

You can donate toward :

  • Our overall operation (staff salaries, utilities and others
  • Short Term emergency plan
  • Long term plan of rebuilding our clinic
